You have a little birdie in your heart. Actually that birdie is your higher self, or your connection to your higher self. Higher self is nothing but God. Hence, your heart is your seat of God. Some people also call it the “gut feeling”. This has to do with your heart, and unfortunately not your “gut”.
Lot of times your heart will tell you something, but you choose to listen to your mind. You will see that you make better decisions once you are connected to your heart. A lot of people have lost that connection, but a few people are quite intuitive, kind of seers if you please.
I am not a proponent of the theory that you should be listening just from your heart, but actually your heart should be guiding your mind. The mind has its own function and importance that cannot be denied, but where the mind fails, let the heart take over. Let it guide you. Some people even say seek guidance from God, and the God, or the higher-self, speaks from your heart. God is a manifestation of your higher-self, or you are a manifestation of the higher-self or God. Religion says that there is a God in every creature, and it speaks and guides you through your heart.
How do you connect to your heart and seek guidance? You need to contemplate, pray and do a little meditation or yoga, mostly pranayam to make that connection. You may have completely lost that connection and may be actually quite rudderless, but if you pray a little a day, contemplate and meditate in silence, slowly you will see that connection is coming through. You may even feel like crying at that time. That is quite okay. Just shows that you are connecting. To keep that connection alive, you need to pray, meditate and contemplate on a daily basis. Listening to soulful music, and reading spiritual books can also help. You can even choose a deity of your own and chant the relevant mantra for that deity to make that connection and keep that connection alive. 108 times a day is enough.
It takes time, and over a period of time you may feel that conviction coming in to you. You will slowly gain that faith. That is your heart guiding your mind. You are in touch with God.
