The entire cosmos is a manifestation of energy. The mass that we see around can also be converted to energy. Hence, the cosmos is a play of energy. What then is the total energy of the universe? It is the energy plus the energy that all the masses can produce.
Can we explain a few things based on the concept of cosmic energy? We can. From the spiritual point of view, the energy of the Supreme Being is the entire energy of the cosmos or the universe. What happens when we die? When we die, our vital energy leaves the body and merges with the cosmic energy. When a child is conceived, some vital energy from the cosmic energy comes into the child. This energy may be that of somebody who has already passed away. This explains rebirth.
Then how do we explain spirits? People who die due to some unnatural cause may have deformed vital energy coming out of their bodies that does not merge with that of the cosmic energy. In the Hindu culture, there are special poojas that are performed to pacify the spirits. Some people worship the ancestors also to seek blessings from their spirits, which are present somewhere in the form of energies.
And what are Gods? Gods are a part of the cosmic energy, and that energy has a certain form that we see in statues and in other forms. They may have existed at some point of time, and their energies have merged with that of the cosmic energy when they left for heavenly abode. It is still possible to pray and seek blessings from those energies by doing proper prayers.
The beauty of the cosmic energy is to be understood and experienced to be believed. The concept of energy is also explained in science. What matters is how we can use the concept of energy and use it to explain the spiritual matters. I feel that science and spirituality are complementary where they explain things fully. It is only that religion is better at playing with the energies than science is, at least so far.
