Solitude,
I did not know, that you would never leave me alone.
The crowd that was there, is long gone,
In their noise, in those celebrations,
In those times of frolic, in that hustle and bustle,
I never heard your footsteps, so light and so gentle,
In those numerous friends, who vowed never to leave,
I never thought that you would be the one,
Who would quietly be on my side, always,
And hug me gently, when I was totally alone,
Solitude,
I did not know that you would never leave me alone.
As a child, I never knew that you existed,
I was surrounded by so many, all the time,
Fun-filled days that seemed never to end,
So many companions, so many friends,
The games that we played, the parties that we had,
Did I think I needed anybody else? Never.
But now, when childhood is a distant memory,
The so many who surrounded me, long gone,
I never thought that you would be the one,
Who would quietly be on my side, always,
And hug me gently, when I was totally alone,
Solitude,
I did not know that you would never leave me alone.
When I grew up, and when I fell in love,
I thought, well the end of solitude,
The sweetness of the feeling in love,
Made me selfish enough to say, that
Now I will never mind who comes and goes,
Because I have my lover, my sweet companion,
By my side, always, do I need anyone else?
But, when the nectar of being in love,
Slowly started fading, and once I understood that,
It is going to be life as usual,
At that moment I never thought that you would be the one,
Who would quietly be on my side, as always,
And hug me gently, when I was totally alone,
Solitude,
I did not know that you would never leave me alone.
When I married, and when our baby was born,
Well, our life has come a full circle,
The life seemed to have found a center,
I saw that there was someone more important than us,
I forgot myself, and she herself,
And you, I thought that you had left me,
But the child slowly learnt the ways to live,
A few thing from us, and a few things from others,
He had learnt to live on his own, we not much needed,
Then again, I never thought that you would still be the one,
Who would quietly be on my side, as always,
And hug me gently, when I was totally alone,
Solitude,
I did not know that you would never leave me alone.
Now that I am old, and I know a few things about life,
A lot of people who come and went,
Some never came back, some did, sometimes,
I remember, how I tried to keep myself busy, and surrounded,
All the time, as I tried to forget myself, and you,
I remember, there were so many people,
Who had given me so much, shared my moments of pleasure,
Helped to forget my moments of pain and grief,
But somewhere, they all left, and life went on as usual,
But I see that you are still quietly by my side,
Hugging me gently, as I am all on my own, seeking some peace,
Solitude,
I never knew that you would be so special,
In those moments of fun and frolic,
In those moments of grief and pleasure,
In those moments when the time just flew past,
In those moments of hope and pure despair,
You were just there, quietly by my side,
Just hugging me gently, and giving me solace,
Without any expectation, like a shadow,
Solitude,
I did not know that you would never leave me alone.
