This has become the age of technology in which we are living, and there are no signs that the advancement in technology is going to subside. There is probably no sector on the face of this earth that is not touched by technological advancement. From healthcare to construction, aviation to hospitality, you name it, it is there. And the best part is that new innovations have become a norm. So where will this end?
If you look at your lives, you have the latest gadgets at your disposal. Hi-tech televisions, latest mobile phones, high-end PCs and laptops that serve you with the best in breed software and applications. The car that you drive has the latest features available. The plane that you fly in has the most advanced aviation systems. Even the food that you eat is processed to a large extent and there is an assortment of it available to satisfy your taste buds. And things keep coming in, more often than not at a speed you cannot keep pace with. For example, your mobile phone becomes outdated in no more than three to six months.
There is a breed of futurists that visualize the way the things should progress, and then we have sci-fiction writers who fuel the imagination of a lot of people working on bringing new technology to the market. If you read these futurists and writers, they have fueled programs where scientists are working on technologies where space colonies and travel will be possible. Just extrapolate the lives you are living today, and imagine living on Mars or Jupiter, in a space cocoon probably, designed to supply you with all you need to make a living. Then there would be vehicles that would travel powered by nuclear energy at the speed of light maybe, or close to that.
Scientists are working on finding a cure for cancer and similar diseases and if recent results are to be believed, cure for such diseases may be on the anvil in a few decades. Stem cell therapy provides a big hope for a cure of a lot of serious health ailments, and aggressive research is going on in this field. It has reached even countries like India. Then food supplements in the form of capsules that will provide just enough balanced nutrition to keep you going. Research is going on to delay the process of aging itself, and some scientists are working on finding the fountain of youth, here on this planet.
The modern construction marvels that you witness, including the swanky apartment that you are living in is another glowing tribute to the technological advancements. From highways to airports, hotels to hospitals, flyovers that criss-cross, and the wired light that energizes your city is just an example of how our lives have been touched by the advancement in habitation and travel. Not only the technology part, but also the people who are behind providing these services are equipped with latest know how to serve you better.
All these are not figments of imagination, but there are advanced nations who are working on such projects. How quickly it will reach the other parts of the world and the public in general is yet to be seen. Maybe we will not see all this in our lifetimes, but maybe our children and grandchildren will witness these events and technologies. So all is not really that bad, and governments and research agencies are making serious efforts to make sure that the lives of the people on this planet are not only sustained, but they are enriched. We will witness a lot of such advancements in our own lifetime, and more of it will come later.
